How Do You Begin Your Paintings?
In today’s episode of the Creative Type Podcast, Lori begins with talking about how she intuitively starts an abstract painting differently than a representational piece. First, she tones the canvas by laying down color (burnt sienna), then she adds in shapes instinctively to create her beautiful abstract paintings.
Jaime finds that she sometimes starts with an entire finished painting in her mind and first starts by roughly sketching the necessary shapes on the canvas or board with charcoal, chalk or pastel pencil. Then she builds up the painting in a more intuitive way after the main values and shapes are added to create her mystical landscapes and florals.
We talk about music in the studio, toning or not toning the canvas and even have a request from our listeners.
